Lavender Festival

This past weekend I took the kids to Sequim's annual Lavender Festival. It's the third year I've gone and has become one of my favorite summer events. Each farm is unique and they all offer a beautiful scenery of every shade of purple. From the moment you step out of the car the faint scent of lavender wisps past you and immediately you feel happy, humble and beautiful. Well, at least I do anyway.

We went to my favorite of all the lavender farms called Purple Haze Lavender. It's been featured in a ton of magazines and on Good Morning America. It truly is a beautiful place and a must see in little ol' Sequim.

Ayla and Holden were most excited about running up and down the rows of lavender. It was like watching Pooh and Roo running away from the swarms of bees (however, there wasn't a swarm of bees and they're not creatures who live in the woods)...their little feet turning over a million times with happiness written all over their faces. Enjoying once again their short lived freedom from the grip of my hand.

I always get the best photos here. Everything you see is gorgeous and the lavender makes for a beautiful back round. Although, taking pictures with two kids in an open field makes it a little challenging. One wants to run one way and the other the other way. That's when my trusty friend Mr. Bribery comes into play.

"Hey guys, I hear they have delicious lavender ice cream for all the good little boys and girls."

And voila! Perfect little angels!

There was a live band playing 60's and 70's rock music and Ayla the free spirited dancer she is made a B line for center stage. She danced to about 7 or 8 songs and stole the heart of her audience. When it was time to go she received a round of applause for her impromptu dance recital and appropriately took a bow.

Holden was not impressed.

Our day had come to an end and I had to make good on my promise. I was informed it was the best ice cream ever!

As long as Sequim keeps hosting this event we'll be in attendance. I want both my kids growing up with great memories and experiences. Like the county fair or trips to Disneyland this is definitely a summer tradition we will always have.
