Happy Birthday America!

We celebrated our 4th on Bainbridge Island. Every year they host a big 4th of July celebration and it's great fun for the kids. My mom had come to join in the festivities which was nice otherwise I might have lost one of them. But as you can see I planned ahead and got us these adorable shirts to help identify a lost child.

When you're at these type of events there's certain things you have to do. Like eat awful Asian food, support a local charity by buying one of their desserts and watch the parade. None of which we did. Actually, my mom did buy the awful Asian food and after one bite decided it was gross and proceeded to throw it away when a lady who was managing the recycling and garbage happily took it. Make no mistake she was not a bum but a volunteer sorting out where garbage should properly be distributed.

Even though we didn't participate in the "to do" list we did other fun stuff. The kids got their face painted...

Ate hot dogs...

And had a blast going down the huge slide...

At least Ayla had the time of her life. Holden, a little confused on how he should feel. He was so adamant about going down the first time by himself which he did. And as he approached the bottom it was as though all the fun and joy and happiness was replaced by fear, panic and horror. He said "Mommy that wasn't fun. Can I go again?" This time I went with him thinking it might help but it didn't and I still got the same response "I didn't like that. Can I go again?"

It was a gorgeous day and treated ourselves to ice cream as the parade was going on. Ayla and Holden thought it would be fun to take pictures with my camera and took some pretty good shots.

After our afternoon on the island we headed back home to light some sparklers and watch the neighbors light off some fireworks. We had a great day celebrating America's birthday!

We were on Bainbridge too! We saw the parade but didn't eat bad Asian food...thank goodness. It would have been fun to see you but there were SO many people.
