Holden's 1st Birthday!

I can't believe my little man is one. Seriously, where did the year go? Holden has become one handsome, happy and lovable little boy. This kid melts my heart every time he smiles or laughs. This past week Holden went for his 12 month doctors appointment and he's growing quit nicely:

Weight: 21.10 (50%)

Height: 30 inches (50-75%)

Head: 46.5 cm (50%)

The poor guy got 3 shots. Luckily his big sister was there to comfort him and tell him "It's ok. It doesn't hurt anymore" as her eyes fill with tears. Sweet, huh?

Today Holden had his first birthday party! I always want their first birthday to be extra special. So, I go all out and make the cake myself and try and have good food and decorate the house to the extreme. I was thinking about what theme I wanted to have for Holden and was looking through the Williams Sonoma catalog and came across this caterpillar cake pan. I immediately thought bugs. Holden will have a bug theme for his first birthday. So, excited as I was I ordered the cake pan and the decorating kit that comes with it. My idea was to create a caterpillar the entire length of my dining table which is about 7 feet long. No problem. I can do this. The one thing I neglected to think of was how long it would take me. 5 cake batches, 5 different colors of butter cream frosting, decorating 32 segments of caterpillar body parts later I was done. Time: 9 HOURS!!!!! The cake turned out awesome and was a total hit! So was it worth the 9 hours? Of course. Would I do it again? Probably not.

Luckily I ordered Holden's personal bug cake for him to dig into. They did a great job creating his bug cake.

I also decided to make cookies for the kids to take home. I failed trying to find a bug cookie cutter so this is what I came up with:

Holden loved his cake! That kid ate and ate and ate nothing but frosting.

Holden's first birthday party was a sweet success. I can't wait to see him grow this next year.
